Drop Test for Re-enforced Equipment & Instrumentation
A Space Center researcher has an application for which he has to devise a drop test for re-enforced equipment and instrumentation. The drop height is 100 feet. To meet his need for a standalone data logger with a small outline and SD memory card slot, he is planning to use an SLX718 in a bench top enclosure along with one 8B38 module connected to a load cell and seven 8B42 modules connected to 2-wire transmitter accelerometers. The researcher reassured us that he will secure and cushion all internal components subject to mechanical shock. We reminded him that the SD card should have a cushioned cover over the card slot and should finish the drop with the card pressing against the cushioned cover because this is the only feature he can design for predictable results.
